2015 marks a great milestone for Variety – 40 years of helping Aussie kids with unmet needs.
Variety celebrated 40 years of helping Australian kids in need with an exceptional event for more than 1,200 guests including Variety kids and families, supporters, volunteers and staff at Taronga Zoo on Saturday 11 April.
This special occasion allowed a large group of Aussie kids in need a magical day out to celebrate Variety and the difference the charity has made to their lives.
The celebratory birthday picnic included three hours of children’s entertainment that concluded with Variety Ambassador, John Paul Young performing a heart-felt rendition of “Love is in the Air”.
Along with all of the special guests on the day was the Prime Minister of Australia Tony Abbott who had the honor of cutting the heart shaped 40th birthday cake with our National Chairman, NSW Chairman & CEO and some thrilled Variety kids!
Other highlights included performances by Aria nominated singer and Country Music Channel Oz artist of the year 2014, Jasmine Rae and a jam session with Rhythm Village who specialise in engaging kids with special needs through drumming and percussion. However, possibly the best highlight was the opportunity for the children to get up close and personal with some of Taronga’s wildlife including a cute Echidna who insisted on lots of cuddles!
