Being a Variety member, volunteer or fundraising supporter is an opportunity to make a positive difference for children who have special needs. Variety – the Children’s Charity of British Columbia’s Red Heart Awards Celebration is an event to pay tribute to this teamwork and, specifically, individuals who go the extra mile to help us help more families around the province.

The Red Heart Awards are awarded annually by Variety – the Children’s Charity of B.C.

The first Heart Award was presented in 1969. Initially there was only one award given out annually. In 1985 the awards were expanded to include Barker of the Year, Angel, Hey Rube and Community with a Heart awards.

In 1989 the awards were expanded further and in 2015 we presented 13 awards, including three telethon awards.

The 2015 Red Heart Awards Celebration was held on October 1st at 6:00 p.m. at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown.

Barbie Hislop received our Barbara Stewart Heart Award this year. Following is the criteria for that award.

BARBARA STEWART HEART AWARD – to an outstanding individual who, over the years, has devoted time, effort and service to the work of Variety – the Children’s Charity. This award represents the “Heart” of the recipient.

(Barbara Stewart is a long-time member of Variety, a past Chief Barker and the Gold Heart chair. The Heart Award was changed to the Barbara Stewart Heart Award in 2015 to recognize Barbara’s exceptional contributions to the on-going success of Variety.)
