Variety of British Columbia – Variety Rally for Kids with Special Needs July 29, 2014 11:44 PM - Variety International

On May 23 and 24 the stars came out in force to support the first annual Variety Rally for Kids with Special Needs. As part of a high-octane scavenger hunt meets amazing race styled fundraiser for Variety – The Children’s Charity of BC, celebrities included Terrence Howard, Billy Baldwin, Kim Coates, and Lisa Rinna. Following a draft party to kick off the weekend, stars demonstrated their navigational skills and joined 18 teams of local drivers who competed for points at various secret pit stops around Vancouver.

Dousing a burning car at the Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services training facility, and singing for Sarah McLachlan at her school of music were just some of the challenges faced by the teams. All drivers and celebrities had an opportunity for meaningful interaction with children helped by Variety at the Variety pit stop featuring a special interactive art therapy activity.

A moving speech by the father of little Nathan kicked off the Variety Rally gala dinner that included a live auction and live music to finish of a spectacular weekend.

“From the stories I’ve heard, everyone had a phenomenal experience,” says Bernice Scholten, Executive Director of Variety – The Children’s Charity of BC. “This event is a perfect example of how individual leadership and teamwork can make a huge impact in our communities. Drivers, sponsors, celebs, and volunteers have literally rallied to the cause.”
