Over the years we have been very proud to be part of Oakwell Respite Home for Children, we have financed the swimming pool, extension and just recently, a wet area and changing rooms for the swimming pool. This is a wonderful home and it is so close to our hearts as they do a wonderful job which is so necessary.

The Annual Ball last year was held in honour of Elder Statesman Dick Ray, Dick has worked so hard for Variety over the years and also so appreciated for all that he has done for the Island. Unfortunately, Dick isn’t in the best of health unfortunately and as he now lives in the Isle of Man, it was wonderful to have him attend the Ball.

We have a busy time ahead as we always seem to have something going on, whether it be selling raffle tickets in the town centre for our Grand Draw to win a car or to be part of a celebration for one of the large companies in Jersey who want to help raise money for Variety.

Other events we have this year are:

Cineworld’s Minion Day – June
Les Landes Race Day – July
Governor’s Walk (Trinity) – July
‘I Served the Kids’ Party – July
Morning at the Fun Fair for children with special needs – August
Governor’s Walk (St Clement) – September

Grand Draw – October
The Variety VE Victory Celebration Ball – November

This is the 6th year that we have held this very special event. It is the one occasion when we can recognise the youngsters in Jersey who have such inspirational stories. It is a wonderful event, and it is getting bigger and better every year. Variety receives so much media coverage – it has become one of the main events of the year.

Governor’s Walks – this has been a great initiative by one of our stalwart members, Frank Falle. Since 1996 Frank has organised walks in the presence of His Excellency the Lt Governor and his Lady around the 12 Parishes in the Island. The Governor represents the Queen for 5 years and during that time he takes part in these walks and at the end of his term he receives a Jersey Milk Can inscribed with all the Parishes and dates.
