Variety – the Children’s Charity of Manitoba (Tent 58) went bananas for Gold Heart Day on Valentine’s Day February 14th with the Minions. A Radiothon was held the day before at Polo Park Mall from 6am -6pm on two FM radio stations and culminated on Valentine’s Day with a visit from the Minions. To help celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Gold Hearts, Variety of Manitoba needed to create an event that would capture Manitobans and put Variety in the spotlight and most importantly, raise funds for the kids!

Tent 58 teased the campaign 10 days prior as the Minions were spotted visiting Polo Park with its Ambassador Heartly. Two media partners were notified and started a big buzz as to why they were there. After two days of the tease campaign, it was unveiled they were there to support Variety of Manitoba’s Gold Heart Day. Even one Minion did a walk on during a weather cast on Global TV. Lots of attention was raised for Variety and especially by social media trending on February 14th increasing visits to the Variety of Manitoba’s website, Twitter and Facebook.

Centre court at Polo Park Mall is where the public was invited to come down from 10am to 4pm on Valentine’s Day and visit the Minions and get their pictures taken with a donation to Variety and receive a Gold Heart Pin. Thousands of children came with their parents as well were given activity sheets , Heartly tattoos and even had the opportunity to win prizes by guessing how many bananas were on the banana wall. The traffic in the mall gained Variety great exposure throughout the two days as a re brand and most importantly for Variety of Manitoba to reconnect and re-engage in the community.
