Dr Ken V Loughnan AO

Advisory Council Chair

A past President of Variety International and Chair of Variety Australia, Ken is a senior international Company Chairman with extensive experience in chairing Boards in the Private, Public and Non-Profit Sectors across 15 countries. 

With an executive background in finance and telecommunications his private sector board appointments include publicly listed companies, employing up to 55,000 staff, and well as a wide range of companies covering 17 key individual industry sectors from auto manufacture to international risk assessment.

He has played a key role in leading major public sector and agency boards continuously since 1983 in a range of jurisdictions including agriculture, police, emergency services, gaming, courts and defence industry. 

His non-profit governance experience spans two large Australian Universities over a period of 30 years as member of the Governing Board, Chair of Foundation and President of Graduate Union as well as Chair of Faculty Advisory Boards.  He is a former Director of the Centre for International Governance Research. He was the Deputy Chair of Variety Victoria before becoming the Variety Australia National Chairman and joining the Variety International Board as Vice President in 2007, a position he held until becoming Variety International President in 2017.

Ken was appointed an Officer in the Order of Australia (AO) by Queen Elizabeth the Second in 1994 for outstanding service to international business and the development of global telecommunications.

Ken and his wife live on a property outside Melbourne Australia, where they run beef cattle and operate espaliered fruit orchards – welcoming their 4 children and 11 grand-children on a regular basis.
