An extraordinary couple who together have done so much for Variety at home in Great Britain and globally to support children in genuine need. In so many ways they represent the true heart of Variety. For decades Marsha Rae has turned her talents to creating fundraising platforms to support Tent operations. In 1988 she created Rosie Rags– the story of a sister who creates a rag doll to cheer up her little sister who is hospitalized – her book, Rosie Comes to Life was a best seller for Variety in many countries. In 1990 Marsha Rae developed the concept of a Gold Heart Pin which grew into a major fundraiser for Variety around the World, raising tens of millions of dollars. She personally designed each Heart for 11 years. Marsha Rae was appointed the first female Chief Barker of Variety Great Britain in 1992 and was appointed a Director on the Variety International Board.
A highly successful businessman, John Ratcliff has devoted a lifetime of service to Variety. A former Chief Barker of Variety Great Britain, Variety International Director and past International President he has applied his business acumen to improving Variety’s administration and financial management at both local and international levels.
Marsha Rae and John continue their involvement as members of Variety’s International Advisory Council. Both have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to society by Queen Elizabeth 11, John with the Award of Companion of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire and Marsha Rae as Officer of the same Order.
