In 2015, Archie was diagnosed with an extremely rare neurological disease called Acute Flaccid Myelitis, which affects the nerves in the spinal cord. The condition had only affected two children in Australia at the time of his diagnosis.
Archie’s condition requires long and intensive rehabilitation and unfortunately he has a very long road ahead of him until his ultimate goal of being able to walk again.
Variety has supplied Archie with two grants, a cough assist machine in 2017 as well as a LiteGait system and endurance treadmill last year.
Chloe, Archie’s mum, explains.
“Variety were kind enough to get us the LiteGait system which is a hoist plus a treadmill and it meant that after surgery we could jump straight into rehab and getting working on his balance, coordination, strength”
“I am hoping that Archie can continue to work towards the ultimate goal, which is getting up and walking; and there’s always people that are going to help him out. Always”
