Molly Kate Elkins is a happy five-year-old who was born with a smile as big as Texas. She was also born with a brain malformation and low muscle tone which requires her to use a wheelchair at all times. Molly Kate’s home is not accessible for her chair, making this spunky little girl’s quest for independence impossible. Showers, hallways, flooring, door frames, raised cabinets, and stairs are a part of every person’s daily life. Not being able to access them independently would challenge not only your quality of life, but also your confidence.
Variety wanted Molly Kate to feel empowered to do anything she wanted in life, and that would start at home. Variety of Texas stepped in to cover the costs to remodel the family’s home to allow Molly Kate the ability to grow into her independence. Today, Molly is thriving in her new surroundings, even venturing in to the shower on her own – something she had never been able to do before.
We are excited to cheer Molly Kate on as she begins her new journey in a home that will teach her to become self-reliant and secure with her abilities – knowing that she can do anything she sets her mind to.
